Your report (see yesterday's story) of navy submarines on the canal is not of course a new development. It really has happened, not just on 1st April!

A fleet of four naval narrow boats was constructed just over 40 years ago -- a submarine, destroyer and frigate among them. They went round the canal system, mainly in the south, as part of the navy's recruitment programme. I remember seeing the boats at Little Venice in west London.

There's even a book on the subject -- Britannia Rules the Cut, by Andy Wood (image attached). The book can be bought at Audlem Mill.
