A reminder that Nantwich Pool will be celebrating its new facilities and a £1.4 million re-development of the centre today, Saturday 15th March, with a grand ceremony.

Attending will be a star guest Joe Townsend (see below for details) to briefly talk about his past experiences, competing and training.

The new facilities include:

  • New bigger matrix equipped fitness suite
  • New fitness studio
  • New reception area
  • New changing facilities

The Ribbon cutting with Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Michael Jones, Joe Townsend, NantwichTown Mayor and Councillor Janet Clowes will take place at 10.00am onwards with exhibitions, displays and activities open to members of the public.

Joe Townsend will be performing some demonstrations and there will be 10p swims and various fitness classes in the centre

Joe Townsend is a Royal Marines Commando who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan. He is now a member of the British Paratriathlon squad as well as an endurance enthusiast, previously competing Ironman and finishing 2nd in the world in the hand cycle category last year.

Joe is a qualified personal trainer and is currently studying a strength and conditioning science BSc at St Mary's University, Twickenham and hopes to get more disabled people into training and competing sport at an elite level.

Joe's goals now are to continue to improve his world ranking in the build up to the Rio 2016 games where he aspires to podium in the first Paralympic Paratriathlon event.
