On July 22nd AudlemOnline published a letter from a "concerned resident" about the latest possible major housing development application coming Audlem's way.

We can now publish the response from Antoinette Sandbach, MP.

Thank you for your email. As you will be aware planning is a function which is exercised by the local council and is delegated to local councillors. The issue is that Cheshire East's Housing projections have been thrown out at appeal. My function is to assist local communities when the council process has ended i.e. to intervene requesting a call in from the Secretary of State.

The position in Cheshire East is that there is very little protection for local communities when the local plan is not adopted, which is the case currently. I am willing to write to the Leader of Cheshire East Council, Councillor Michael Jones requesting that the Council consider that any large scale planning applications seeking to exploit the failure of Cheshire East to get their housing projections right is a potential abuse of the planning process.

In the meantime I would like your permission to pass your email onto Councillor Bailey I know that planning rules will prevent her from publicly taking a position either for or against a planning application but in my experience she is a conscientious and hard working local councillor and I would like to pass on your email to her.

Yours sincerely

Antoinette Sandbach MP

Member of Parliament for Eddisbury
