Local MP has sent AudlemOnline this report of her meeting with Post Office Ltd:

Re the meeting on Tuesday, I spoke to the Post Office and they are committed to putting in a temporary postmaster. Before they can do this there are some legal hoops which have to be gone through.

Due to Data Protection they were not in a position to discuss that matter further (Antoinette Sandbach explained the reasons for this which seem reasonable as they relate to the existing post office premises, but are best not published.). However I understand that if they can get access to the premises next week then they will put in a temporary postmaster. I have asked them to confirm that in writing to me.

I emphasised the importance of the service to Audlem, which they clearly understood. They would like someone to take over the service long term and will be asking for formal expressions of interest once the legal matters have been clarified.

I asked if they were willing to train someone into the role, and they confirmed that they were. I also informed them that there were a number of retail premises in Audlem.

No doubt AudlemOnline will be contacted by the Post Office, but clearly the future service in the village will depend on someone being prepared to take it on. They will retain a temporary postmaster whilst this process is ongoing – things will be a lot clearer next week.

I hope you find this update helpful. It was fortunate I was able to meet them so quickly.

Member of Parliament for Eddisbury
