Motorcycles on the towpath

Last night, at about 7.15pm, as I was going up to check the honesty box, I heard the (now inevitable) motorcycle pull up.

My surprise was two "Hooddie" youths" inspecting the produce. They claimed to only have 30p and what could they buy – actually nothing.

I did offer them to try the plums but they disliked them. I queried them riding motorcyles on the towpath and they claimed that as they were only nominally 50ccs they could do so.

They were not on a boat and claimed not to be local. Anyway, about an hour later it was drawn to my attention that motorcyles were racing up and down between locks 10 and 12.

It seems the word has got out that this is a good place to be. But the wear and tear on the towpath will be as unacceptable as the danger. It seems to me that this is now a matter for the Parish Copuncil and the Waterways board.

Incidentally the first motorcycle (reported on Audlem Online earlier) was yellow but these two last night were blue. Any taker that the next will be green!

#Update
Audlem Online adds: We have now heard that a motorcycle was seized from a youth last night by the police and he will be dealt with for the motoring offences committed.

The two young motorcyclists were seen cycling around the village and the younger one was then detained by a member of the public on Audlem Wharf at around 7.45pm and the police were called. The elder one drove off, abandoning his young colleague.
