Peter Morgan became a Parish Councillor earlier this year and was also co-opted on to the Council's Editorial Committee. Over the next few days, Peter will reflect on these new duties. Just as Charles Dickens' work was published in episodes to allow the reader's tension and expectation to increase, so we have broken down his thoughts into bite sized pieces. Peter's writing experience comes from many years with the NFU and helping clients to fill in NFU Mutual claim forms! So, we bring to you Episode One of 'Morgan's Miscellany':

"Informed at the bar of the Combermere one evening that I was now part of the village webteam came as some surprise. I had not taken on board exactly what was required when appointed to the editorial slot on the Parish Council. It had sounded like a cushy number at the time.

Now, seated in Bob's dining room with my back up against the wall, I was having second thoughts. Initially I was much in awe of the Mussolini uniform he wore with such aplomb, his immaculately polished swizzle stick and commanding tone as he expounded on the problems of the A525. Outside, the cacophony of discontent grew louder as the 120mm gun of his intemperately parked Tiger Two tank obstructed the highway. I looked to Margaret, seated immediately to my right for support, but having had a rant about rabbits, she was now quiet, unusually quiet. At the end of the table Pam looked quite feching in her French maid's outfit – no wonder Geoff always looks so happy.

The sweat was running down my forehead as I realised that Bill S. and myself were the only sane ones there. You will write some funny articles for the website and we want them by next Saturday, said Bob, his hand lashing out like lightning to crush a particularly annoying fly on the table that, for some reason, had the face of an HGV driver from Zagreb. Fortunately, at this point the name of Bill Consterdine was mentioned and , with a jolt, I was awake. Hence the reason I am up at such an early hour."
