And yet more entries for the Church Clock competition. One says: "Here's an acronym for the clock competition – MACCAWS – 'Money for Audlem Church Clock Automatic Winding System.' Or, it's suggested, one of the "Cs" could be left out by omitting "Church". This , however, wouldn't chime with another suggestion – T I C T O C – or 'T i m e I C a me T O C h u r c h'.

The new Audlem Online competition is to find a better name for the 'The Audlem St James' Church Clock Automatic Winding Mechanism Fund Raising Appeal'. The campaign, regular readers will recall, aims to raise the money to pay for a new mechanism to replace the clock's 97-year old manual winding gear. This requires, we are told, 275 windings a week, carried out on a Thursday, to keep the clock going.

The prize for a better name is a tour of the church clock tower and a chance to help with the winding. See stories on Tuesday on Sunday for more details and other suggestions received so far.
