On Saturday the 4th April (Easter Saturday), you can glimpse a huge 34 feet by 14 feet exhibition quality model railway in the Village Hall, Cholomondely Road in Wrenbury. CW5 8HG.
This large layout has been constructed by Tom Snook, his son Will and a small team of helpers. It has been constructed in 7 feet by 3 feet sections in their home. This will be the first time it has been assembled in its entirety.
To facilitate this, the village hall has been booked for the weekend and the team will start to assemble on Wednesday 1st April. As the various sections have never been linked together they anticipate there might be a few technical issues.
A joiner will be on hand to advise and assist plus members of the Wrenbury & District model railway club who meet every Wednesday evening at the hall. There will be a need for minor alterations and adjustments but these should be sorted by Saturday lunchtime.
Tom has therefore decided to allow a preview of the layout between 12noon and 3.00pm but due to the complex nature of the wiring and operation of such a large layout there may not be anything running.
The layout known as '45C – the pits' – will run freight only traffic – has a running line of 85 feet, 120 sets of points and needs a team of 6 to operate it.
Tom is ultimately exhibiting this to raise money for the Royal Marines Charitable Fund, being a Green Beret holder himself.
This trial set-up will allow further work to be carried out on the various sections before it returns to the hall for a Saturday Open Day in October when all aspects, lighting, sound and several locos running will all be seen.
This one day special is itself a rehearsal as the layout is booked to go to the Warley Model Railway Show at the NEC in November, a prestigious National Exhibition.
Make a note in your diary, be the first to see this incredible railway for free but don't come empty handed as there will be a collection made for the worthy cause of Royal Marines Charitable Fund. Saturday 4th April from 12 noon to 3.00pm Wrenbury Village Hall.
