A Model of Audlem Station

I would like to discover whether there would be sufficient interest to form a Historical Modelling Society within the village. The primary goal would be to create a model of Audlem Station as it was, say, in the nineteen fifties.

I am hoping that a project like this would appeal to a wide range of people: both male and female, young and not so young. We would need people with a range of talents – or a willingness to learn new crafts – and an interest in history and historical realism. Apart from the station buildings and the goods shed we would model the gasworks, the petrol station, the bridge, the Copthorne hill, the trees the scenery and a backscene. And of course there would be working models of the trains, carriages and other rolling stock.

We have the agreement of the members of the Baptist Church in Woore Road to use part of the 'School Room' for this project, which could become an asset for the village as a whole and we would have 'Open days', particularly in the summer months when the village has its major 'events'.

All this will only be possible if there is sufficient support so, if you are interested in becoming involved and you are between the ages of about 10 and 100, please phone me on 01270 811868.

It would be wonderful to have a mix of people – both those who have done modelling before and could pass on their creative skills particularly to the young, and those who would like to learn how to become more creative.

If enough people register an interest we can arrange an initial meeting to discuss the proposals in more detail.
