As is normal here in this Marvellous Village, we set up a team in 1999 to ensure we greeted the new Millennium in some style.

I was asked to be Chairman- along with Bill Consterdine, David Higham, the late May Hunter, Cheryl Guerin, Mike Hill, Graham Moss, Rosemary and Len Slawinski with Carol Jones as our secretary.

We created stainless steel time capsules and these are buried. One each at Buerton School. Audlem St James and under the Mill Wheel in the Square, containing elements of the village etc.

The Mill wheel was a gift from Martyn Measures father- from his house at Swanbach. Plus a very fine cook book of recipes from residents- in their own writing. And a front cover designed by a pupil of St James school, complete with spelling mistakes! And the finest bone china commemorative mug. With of course, the New Years Eve Firework Display.

It was determined by ADAS( Audlem District Amenities Society, founded in 1969 to serve the village and district and which marvellous body of volunteers give us all the plantings here of spring and summer blooms and the magnificent Christmas display,) to make a special marker for the year 2000.

ADAS resolved to present to each baby born here in the Millennium year a special china plate bearing their name and date of birth. I found a small potter near to Leek who was able to give us each of these unique plates. and now here in 2018, the very first such "baby" celebrates her 18th birthday and adulthood.
Jessica Edith May Davenport was born on the 5th January to Steve and Kristie. Here she is now and a truly beautiful young woman. We hope that all the Millennium babies do have their special plates and can look back to remember their early years. A very happy time for all – and what a great idea it all was by this wonderful community we have here.
