Geoff Oakes of Audlem has been made an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Geoff, retired last year after working as college clerk for Reaseheath College in Nantwich for 35 years.

Married with children and grandchildren, he has also carried out much community work. He said of his award:

"This has come as a complete surprise but, of course, I'm thrilled.

"I had an absolutely delightful career at Reaseheath under three different principals, all of whom helped push the college forward. It has been a real privilege to work at such a rapidly expanding and well known college."

Reaseheath College principal Meredydd David said: "This is a hugely deserved accolade and honour."
