Sunday 25th March could be a very busy day in Audlem when hundreds of cyclists visit the village as part of an organised mass participation cycle ride or 'sportive'. The ride is organised by kilotogo.com, based in Stoke-on-Trent, who will be running 12 sport and leisure rides from March to October 2007 from East Yorkshire to the South Coast. But it's good to hear that their very first event will involve Audlem.

Five hundred cyclists are expected to participate and the Bridge Inn is featured as a 'feed and checkpoint', one of three on the 97.5 mile circuit that starts in Knutsford, travels to Beeston Castle, then Audlem and on to Astbury before returning via the Congleton area to Knutsford. The ride includes a steep climb over Mow Cop.

Whether Audlem will see all the participants is unsure as a shorter version that cuts back across mid-Cheshire from Beeston has been included in the arrangements. As well as The Bridge Inn, Geoff Stretch of Audlem Public Hall has been talking to the organisers as toilet facilities on a grand scale could well be required. Given the limited nature of Audlem's public toilets, the Hall's facilities may well be popular.

More on this story as we move nearer to 25th March which will be the first day after the clocks change to British Summertime, a nice thought for those not so keen on the dark nights at present.
