The next long ARS walk is on Saturday November 14th.

We propose an 8-mile fairly easy circuit around the North end of Cannock Chase, with the option of a 1.5 mile extension if needed.

We park at Seven Springs in a free car park just off the A513. Unfortunately there are no toilets at the car park (but plenty of bracken and bushes).

The route takes us almost into Little Haywood and then along the towpath of the Trent & Mersey as far as Great Haywood. Here we cross the parkland of Shugborough Hall and head towards Milford, to pick up the Heart of England Way into Cannock Chase. The rest of the walk is through the Chase, finishing up with a crossing of the Sher Brook at a place called Stepping Stones (draw your own conclusions), and then back to the car park.

Most of the walk is towpath, parkland and the Chase so there shouldn't be much problem with livestock. It will undoubtedly be a bit muddy in places. but again much of the walk is on properly made paths.

I have only been able to do a very limited "recce" but what I have checked is OK.

It is about a 45 minute drive from Audlem to the start point, but we will still go for an 8.30am meeting on Audlem Car Park to give ourselves the maximum hours of daylight.
