I am looking on the web for the service records of Audlem and District men who fought in WW1. Many were destroyed in the blitz of the second War and you can see from the images why they are called 'the burnt records'.

So far I have found William Thomas Ashley grandson of Isaac Ashley the blacksmith in Buerton – his father had moved to Crewe but I still count him as he was born in Audlem.

The next one I have found is George William Billington of Hankelow – working on him now. You can see I have not got far through the alphabet!

If anyone already has service records or details of Regiment etc of their relatives we would love to hear from them ready for events later in the year.

The records that we have for WW1 soldiers from Audlem, Hankelow and the district can be found on the archive part of the site – click here and then select "events" and "WW1". You can use the "Contact" tab to pass any information to Celia and the History Society.
