Roland Hall, a local resident writes:- "The problem created by HGVs in Audlem is well documented but mainly this concentrates on the centre of the village and the narrow footpath the Whitchurch Road end of the A525."

"However, yesterday just after 4.00pm, I was walking on the footpath along Green Lane towards Audlem going to deliver a letter. The road is quite narrow (particularly between 30 and 36 Green Lane just before the flashing 30mph sign) and this is exacerbated by the fact that on the eastern side (canal side) the bank/wall is high making it difficult for large vehicles to pass without encroaching the footpath. Suddenly I was knocked off balance by a Bargain Booze lorry entering the village. It was probably its wing mirror and fortunately I was not injured and picked myself up and chased after the lorry to get its registration but it turned left to Whitchurch at the junction before I could get there."

"I did report this to their Head Office pointing out how serious it could have been had it involved an elderly person, child or even a dog and they have spoken with the driver and apologised. They have also warned their drivers to be extra vigilant in the future."

"The incident does illustrate that the HGV traffic travelling through Audlem causes danger on other roads, not just the A525. In my view, during the past 9 months, there has been a noticeable increase in commercial vehicles using Green Lane, particularly since it was sign posted as a long term diversion when the A51 was closed at Pipegate/Woore and the opening of the Homebase/Wilkinsons/Argos stores at Market Drayton."
