Combermere Abbey Owner Published Author in New Book On British Country Homes

Sarah Callander Beckett, owner of the local Combermere Abbey estate, is now a published author with a chapter in every history lover's latest coffee table must-have -- The Country House: Past, Present, Future.

The brilliant collaboration between David Cannadine and Jeremy Musson explores the unique stories and histories, grand architecture, sumptuous interiors and stunning landscapes of some of our treasured buildings across Britain to bring a fresh look on these historic houses with inspiring photographs and essays about Britain's heritage.

Entitled 'An Inheritance Restored -- a private owner's experience', Sarah Callander Beckett's chapter focuses on the challenged of the restoration of country houses today, after inheriting Combermere Abbey in 1992 and finding it in much need of repair. The project of bringing life back to the historic Abbey took over 20 years, and saved the estate from ruin.

During the 1990s work began to convert the formerly derelict stable block into luxury self-catering holiday cottages and restoring the grand Library's roof. Throughout the years the Edwardian Glasshouse and Walled Gardens were returned to their original glory and given a new lease of life as a wedding venue. In 2014 the famed Gothic North Wing restorations began, transformed into a luxury B&B by 2016 bringing more tourism to the local area.

The Country House: Past, Present and Future is the ideal Christmas gift for lovers of British history and stunning architecture and can be purchased from Amazon.

Those who would like to experience the historic magic of Combermere Abbey can book a winter getaway in the North Wing B&B or luxury dog-friendly self-catering cottages -- please visit the Combermere Abbey website or call 01948 660 345.
