It was good to see that the Nantwich Bookshop, founded by ex-Audlem resident Steve Lawson, has made it into a Top 50 bookshops national listing.

Each Saturday, the Independent newspaper lists a Top 50 of something or other. Yesterday it was the turn of bookshops, chosen by a panel of five distinguished people who know their books.

This week's list was based on geography rather than ranking with Steve's popular shop being praised in the Northern section. The newspaper said:

"Based in an imposing Tudor merchant's house this store makes the most of its location with enough for a good display of books plus space for events and a comprehensive café. It has strong links to the community."

On a half-hour visit on Friday, it was very noticeable that a large proportion of customers came from Audlem.
