Lights down in Audlem

Today, the village lost some of its sparkle as we laboured to remove all the Christmas displays.

At 8.00am we set to with ladders to take down all the small trees and to cut up the big tree. All the lights were carefully removed and stored in my barns ready for next Christmas.

The trees were given over to the Scouts and Guides as part of their annual recycling operation. After three finger numbing plus real toe freezing hours, my team of Russ Waters, Mike Hill, Mike Haines, Bryony Nixon, Bill Consterdine, Phil Baker, Pete "Mumbles" and myself were finished.

Tasty and very welcome bacon sandwiches fortified us – served by Julie Hesketh – also part of the ADAS team, and Sion Price of Audlem in Bloom was there working on the recycling task. All in all, a very good team effort and one that worked like clockwork.

The village will truly be darker tonight.

Now to organise next year's big tree and the sponsors for the 2010 tree are Trixie and Norman Bonnell of Holly Bank – a very apt address!

If anyone would like to be our sponsor for the Big tree, please do contact me on 01270 812125.
