A very proud Audlem family went last week to the Commando Training Centre, Royal Marines at Lympstone in Devon to see Liam Bevington RM presented with his green beret. Liam, who lives in the village, started training with the Royal Marines at the beginning of the year. It's an incredibly tough programme and many in Audlem will have seen him getting in to shape and peak fitness for months before he headed off for his Commando Training.

Liam, who is now 19, was an apprentice joiner with the Grout Building Company, working with Lenny Meredith. While thoroughly enjoying the job, he says, he hankered for something different and being a Royal Marine was his dream ambition.

Marine recruits have to master many skills, and many fall by the wayside, so it was an emotional experience for his family as Liam paraded on Thursday last week as part of the Kings Squad and then went on to be also awarded the PT Certificate. His parents, Steve and Carol Bevington, sister Jodie, grandmother Kath Lewis and a number of friends all attended the ceremony. Carol said: "We are so proud. It's been tough for everyone, but especially Liam. To see him presented with his green beret was a very special moment."

Liam enjoyed a celebration this weekend – a surprise joint party at Brookfield Golf Club with his sister, who has just passed her veterinary nursing qualifications. Today, he's off to his new base in Scotland and lots more training. Congratulations to Liam on his success.
