ASC Saints U11s football team maintained their unbeaten record on Sunday in a tough game against ASC Juniors.

The game was always going to be well balanced being league leaders Vs 2nd placed and so it proved. Juniors battled hard and had much more of the ball in the first period and deserved the 1-0 lead that they took into half time.

In fact, but for three fantastic saves from the Saints goalkeeper, the game may have gone beyond reach in that first period.

As it was, the Saints were able to claw their way back into the game. As the 2nd half progressed Saints built more pressure but the one good chance they needed seemed like it wasn't going to come along.

Then, three minutes from full time a shot was sensibly drilled hard and low into a crowded penalty box and Saints got the luck that the hard work deserved. The ball took a deflection off a defender and ended up in the back of the net.

The final score of 1-1 was probably just about the right result – Juniors played the better football but Saints matched them for effort and perseverance.

The draw leaves Saints still top of the league having won 7 and drawn 2 of the nine games to date. Next week Saints have another very tough fixture against Nantwich Town who are currently in 3rd place but with 2 games in hand. Kick off is 10am at The Barony.
