Judy Benson of Williams' newsagents and Audlem's Tourist Information Centre has received a signed photograph from Ian Hislop, the editor of Private Eye, a team captain on the satirical current affairs quiz Have I Got News For You, and possibly the wittiest man in England.

The photograph, which shows Ian Hislop at the door of the Private Eye magazine's offices says: "To Judy, in the 'Welsh' village of Audlem, Regards, Ian Hislop." Does this mean a story in Private Eye, we wonder. After all, Ian Hislop is a man who knows a funny story when he hears one. And he knows about mixed up national issues as he was born in Wales to a Scottish father and a Channel Islander mother of English descent yet lived in Nigeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong as a young child!

Another prominent personality to get in touch is the Chief Constable of North Wales, Richard Brunstrom. He has posted a comment on the Audlem Online Forum saying: "Greetings from Wales!

I am the Chief Constable of North Wales, and an incomer to Wales. Just a quick note to tell you that life really is better over here on our side of the border; not only is the grass greener and hospital parking free (as you already know), but crime is down in North Wales by 30% in the last five years (and we were already one of the very safest places to live in the UK) – and we've reduced road casualties by over a third in less than ten years.

"So take my advice, secede from England and join us here in wonderful Wales. You won't regret it.

Cymru am byth!

Cofion cynnes/warm regards

Richard Brunstrom"
