Ralph Warburton writes: You no doubt will recall the poem Jessie, the poetry winner of 2012 at the Arts Festival , penned about her Christmas Friend.
Well, now we have a reprise on her pal – for this poem is in effect a goodbye after a sad death which Jessie has asked me to send it to the web site.
My Beautiful Christmas Butterfly
by Jessie
My little Christmas visitor is no more -
It happened this way
For well over a month
It was my friend
I thought our friendship
Would only end
When it flew away.
With great delight
It supped the honey mix
I left upon a tray
Then vanished – as it were
Into the night
Only to appear
On a bight sunlit day
I was so glad!
But now I'm sad -
For my little friend is dead
I did enjoy my tiny pal
Being here with me
But now it will be -
Flying high
Where the warm breezes blow
In a butterfly sky....
Because I know.
