AudlemOnline has been sent, via Cheshire East Council, the following warning of a scam being carried out by fraudsters at present.

As you can see from the Cheshire Constabulary poster – click on it to enlarge – a fraudster telephones you claiming to be from your bank or the police. They tell you that your bank card details have been used fraudulently.

They suggest that you hang up and ring the bank or the police to ensure the call is genuine.

Don't be fooled – they stay on the line. They then tell you to read out or key in your PIN. They send a taxi courier to you to collect your bank card. With this and and your PIN, they spend your money.

The poster says that your bank or the police will never ask for your PIN or bank card – don't give them to anybody.

We did think for a moment of phoning the police to check if the poster was genuine but as we were not asked for our PIN number in the covering email we decided to risk it and publish!
