It could have been a tornado that hit Brooks Mill Farm, Lightwood Green yesterday evening says BBC weatherman Chris Fawkes. Equally it could have been a localised gust associated with a convective squall. He stated that these are the two most likely possibilities.

Chris, who is a regular visitor to Audlem, explained to Audlem Online that on yesterday morning's BBC Breakfast Time local weather forecast he had predicted gusts of up to 70 mph. Having checked yesterday's observation readings this morning, he found that there were no strong gusts reported at any of the area's weather stations – the highest recorded gust being 45 mph. He did stress, however, that this did not rule out the possibility of a remote rural area such as Lightwood Green experiencing a strong-enough gust to cause the damage encountered at the farm.

Similarly, in his view, it is quite possible that it was a tornado. He explained that tornadoes can occur in remote areas without causing widespread damage and, when it is dark, without being seen by anyone.
