Is the 'Man in Pyjamas' the answer to troublesome youths?

While the debate about whether Audlem should employ a Police Community Support Officer continues, Audlem Parish council heard a dramatic tale this week that might be an alternative approach to late-night noise caused by some in the village centre.

Jim Winfield was so fed up he tackled Friday night's trouble last weekend wearing just his pyjamas and dressing gown! He has now asked Audlem Parish Council to help address the situation. Jim said: "Last Friday evening the behaviour was worse than I've ever experienced. After I went out it seemed to calm down a bit. I had friends staying who couldn't sleep and I was embarrassed."

"I think the police were called and one of the answers could be another community police officer but unless it is between 10pm and 2am on a Friday and Saturday night there wouldn't be much point. CCTV is the only way forward from what I can see."

"Mind you," he added, "given the way I was dressed, I'm lucky I wasn't the one to be arrested!"

Jim added that the trouble seemed to centre around the pizza parlour but admitted it was not their fault. He said: "It would be very unfair to blame the pizza parlour for this. You can't really blame them for being there. You can't ask them to leave and take their livelihood away."

The story is reported in this week's Market Drayton Advertiser.
