Is it the right pavement?

We should be grateful for any improvement that comes our way, we are told, and many in the village will be extremely grateful for the splendid new pavement surface that runs down Cheshire Street from Broadways right to the village centre.

After all, this is probably the first resurfaced pavement for possibly a generation. The previous surface had seen numerous diggings up to install new facilities underground possibly dating back to the first arrival of electricity in the village.

There may just be one little problem, as several cute pavement observers have said to AudlemOnline. It's not the East side of Cheshire Street that was in a truly terrible, dangerous state but the West side, still in the same mess that it's been for years between the village centre and the car park and much used with trepidation by residents and visitors alike.

Or maybe the contractors had mixed up their streets and they were meant to be resurfacing the pavement on the south side of Stafford Street, virtually destroyed by heavy vehicles who use the pavement as a by-pass when the A525 itself is fully occupied by competing vehicles in the narrow but busy road.

Hopefully all will come right as the contracting teams return next week to finish off the splendid job they have started – but this time resurfacing the worst pavements in the village.

In the meantime, let's be grateful for what we have received. A Walk on the East Side of Cheshire Street is a joy.

Update: We are pleased to report that the pavement repair team returned on the Monday after this report and an equally splendid job was completed on the West side of Cheshire Street.
