Is Cheshire East's chief executive about to go as the council reveals it is 'radically examining' its management arrangements.

If so, it would end local bets on how long she will take to fulfil her promise to visit Audlem made on her appointment four years ago!

This week's Chronicle says rumours have been circulating between Cheshire East councillors that Erika Wenzel, much criticised for her £189,000 salary (with extra for additional duties such as supervising elections and £35,000 in pension contributions), will not be part of of a new 'top team' structure.

Council leader, Cllr Wesley Fitzgerald, confirmed the review of the senior management structure but would not say whether anyone would be standing down.

The Chronicle adds that leading Independent councillor, David Brickhill – well-known to Audlem campaigners during the struggle to de-prime the A525 – says Conservative councillors have already been briefed on her departure. He said he would not be sorry to see her go and hoped any new chief executive would be paid a reduced wage.
