We enjoyed this football report from the School Newsletter this week (see separate story tomorrow from Becky Jewitt with the rest of the Newsletter) that we are publishing it as a separate news report.
Those that enjoy Ralph Warburton's weekly reports of Audlem FC's matches will be happy to learn that a new generation of sports reporters is growing up in Audlem:
Audlem St James v Sound
Becky Jewitt writes: In last week's newsletter, I promised an update on our Football Team's match in the quarterfinals of the South Cheshire shield. I was delighted that two of the team, Max Youle (Y5) and Riley Capewell (Y6) spent time writing a very thorough and impressive match report which they sent to me earlier this week – it is so good I wanted to share it in full with you all:
"On Friday the school football team played against Sound. We kicked off passing the ball right to left and then the ball broke free to the Sound striker and they were on the attack. The defence acted very professionally by winning the ball back and calmly passing the ball to James.
"Suddenly we had the upper hand as the Sound players had to retreat from their attack to defend. Sadly we didn't take our chance and their keeper saved with confidence. The half ended at 0-0 and had been very strong in all elements of the pitch.
"As the second half began the Sound team had strengthened a lot but so had ours. The first real chance of the half came our way but the keeper parried to safety. We took the corner, fortunately it bounced away from the Sound players and fell to our striker and the corner turned into a goalmouth scramble as the keeper spilt the ball and we agonisingly hit the post. The game ended 0-0 including extra time.
"As we lost the toss they had the advantage of going first. Their striker stepped up and you could see the fear in his face, he struck the ball straight down the middle and Max, our keeper, comfortably saved. Riley stepped up and walked in his run up, you could see that he really wanted to score and so did the team. He hit the ball with pace and accuracy and placed it in the right hand side netting. Their defender scored Sound's first penalty. 1-1.
"Kory took his penalty and sadly the keeper made the save. As the penalties proceeded the penalty count went to 2-1 because James scored his by drilling the ball low and Sound missed. Harry ran up and belted the ball high into the roof of the net. Bradley took his penalty and it skimmed the outside of the post. The game ended 3-2 as the eventful evening came to an end."
A great report boys and a super performance from the team – congratulations on securing your place in the semi finals this evening! Good Luck!
