We found this little visitor asleep at the bottom of our vegetable garden. I know that a few have been released in Audlem in the last couple of years and have had the pleasure of spotting an adult in the garden when my very puzzled young dog drew my attention to it.

I was doubly delighted to find a youngster lodging with us, evidence of them breeding, I hope we can build a suitable home to encourage him/her to stay.

Please take extra care when strimming under hedges etc as this one was fast asleep and didn't stir when I took the photographs. Please also exercise caution when using slug pellet. We have put some around our cabbage plants but have covered them with mesh so hedgehogs and birds can't access them.

Hedgehogs used to be frequent visitors to my childhood gardenI but are becoming increasingly rare and I am sure there will be some children who have never seen one. I hope the photo will help them identify one if seen in their gardens.
