Honesty box incidents

This past week we have reported a number of incidents involving a youth on a yellow motorcycle and two youngsters on blue motorcycles racing on the canal towpath.

On Friday we reported that Chris Lewis, following an earlier encounter with the 'yellow motorcyclist' reported on Wednesday, had found two youths on blue motorbikes taking a close interest in his veg and fruit box which has an 'honesty box' nearby, despite the youngsters claiming they only had 30p on them.

The following day, a youngster on a blue motorbike was detained by a member of the public on Audlem Wharf, his motorbike confiscated by the police and he is to face a number of charges relating to motoring offences. His slightly older colleague on a blue bike made his escape.

Possibly coincidentally, there have been a number of thefts from honesty boxes recently. Indeed, one was prevented when a youth on a motorbike – we have been told the colour but will not publish it for legal reasons – was found with his hand in one of the boxes.

Another box by the canal was also broken into and (probably) money taken.

These latest incidents follow a far more serious case back in June. We then reported on the break-in at George's Pork & Poultry when much stock was taken and with considerable damage to the building and other stock.

We received reports then that three youths were seen in the vicinity about the time of the robbery. A wealth of forensic evidence, we are told, was also gathered after that break-in.

As yet, we have not heard if that police investigation from mid-June has made any progress.

If anybody has any information that may be of interest on any of the above incidents, please contact the police.
