The next History meeting will be held at the Scout and Guide Hall, Audlem, on Thursday 20th February at 7.30 pm., when Bill Pearson will be speaking about the Nantwich Workhouse.
Bill is a well-known and excellent speaker who has given several previous talks to our Society.
He worked for part of the now defunct Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for 17 years,
and then for Reaseheath College for 19 years. Bill has always had a special interest in history,
especially local history and the history of food, health and the poor.
The talk will cover workhouses in and around Nantwich, including Audlem, which was part of the massive Nantwich Union. Bill writes that if you think that the workhouse where Oliver Twist was
placed sounded bad, wait until you hear about the Black Hole in Nantwich Workhouse!
Everyone is welcome to this fascinating talk. (Visitors please pay £4 on the door).
