A delegation from Audlem will be going to Crewe tonight to attend the County Council's and Borough Council's Highways and Transportation Local Joint Committee meeting at the Municipal Buildings.

At their last meeting in April, it was decided by the county and borough councillors that they would support the county's proposal to de-prime the A525 through Audlem as the proposal was considered to be consistent with the review by Cheshire on the road hierarchy. The committee resolved: "That the proposal to de-prime the A525 (through Audlem) from the Primary Route Network, be supported."

The committee did not, however, support a similar proposal to de-prime the A51 from Bridgemere to Nantwich. There is concern that the A51 decision might delay or affect the A525's de-priming as the whole project affects three counties in the West Midlands as well as Cheshire. As the A525's de-priming was one of the key proposals in the Audlem Parish Plan, the delegation is anxious to see progress.

Tonight's meeting is also considering new parking restrictions in the centre of Audlem following the opening of the Co-op's new store. It is being proposed that 'no waiting' signs etc will apply for 148 metres from the canal bridge on the Co-op's side of the road with 'no loading and unloading' also introduced over that distance. There will also be no waiting on the opposite side of Shropshire Street from the bridge for 43 metres eastwards.

These restrictions follow representations from 'members of the public, Police and the Parish Council', says the proposal.
