The breaking news this morning of a second major earthquake to hit Nepal will make rescue and recovery even more difficult.

Two weeks ago when the first pictures were shown of the devastation, my son-in-law Tom was amazed to see people that he knew. Over the last twelve years Tom had been to the Himalayers on mountaineering expeditions leading the last one himself.

As the news broadcast progressed, he was amazed to see Sherpas that he knew, disasters that happen far away often are soon forgotten but for Tom this was very personal. As Tom said: "When you have climbed to 28000ft with a bloke you tend to get to know him".

His first thought was to send a donation to the disasters fund but Alexandra, his wife, persuaded him to do more. She had previously held a very successful musical evening at there home for the NSPCC and had raised substantial monies.

So last Friday they held a similar event and were amazed by the response: so much so they had to limit numbers as their house was full to bursting.

A great night was had by all with over £600 being raised for the disaster fund. Tom and Alex would like to thank all who attended for their genorosity.
