Audlemites venturing to Nantwich may have noticed the 'Road Closed' sign at the turning for Bridgemere Lane in Hatherton, which has been in place since the end of February.

The road is closed because there was a serious accident, unfortunately causing severe injuries to an unsuspecting cyclist who happened to hit a huge pothole in the lane.

This is not any old 'normal' pothole but part of the road has collapsed over a culvert running under the road surface. The collapse is likely to have been caused by HGVs.

Motorists who circumnavigate the 'Road Closed' signs (and there are many!) should be aware that this is illegal and that their insurance will be invalid should the road collapse further (which is likely) and their vehicles damaged.

We've no idea when the road will be repaired by Cheshire East as it's on their list, but hopefully this will not rival Shropshire Council's 'Adderley traffic lights' timeframe!
