A perusal through the agenda for Cheshire East's Southern Planning meeting at Crewe's Municipal Buildings at 1.00pm on Wednesday 28th January threw up the following item:

"514/2714N Former Hack Green RAF Camp, Coole Lane, Hack Green, Austerson, Nantwich, Cheshire CW5 8AS:

Change of use of land to provide 9 yards for 10 travelling showpeople's families, formation of roads and hard surfacing for The Hack Green Group."

This item has attracted interest on AudlemOnline in the past with a campaign by residents near the site and in Nantwich to oppose the plan. Campaigners also spoke at an Audlem Parish Council last year saying that the plan could increase HGV traffic locally, particularly on Coole Lane.

Another item might be of nostalgic interest to those locally who used to attend the memorable Christmas get togethers at the Saxon Crosses hotel in the 1980s. There's an application to demolish and transform the old hotel near to Sandbach up for consideration.

Even after the party involved were eventually forced, if that's the word, to move elsewhere, mainly to hostelries in Nantwich, the name 'Saxon Crosses' lived on for many years to describe those lunches.
