Audlem Saints U9s football team notched another win on Sunday, making it 6 from 8 this season. This time it was Betley that were beaten soundly by 7 goals to 1.

Audlem started brightly with good passing and movement creating many chances. The finishing touch was lacking though and it was Betley that took a surprise lead. Capitalising on a rare free kick in an advanced position, they tucked away a half chance to give the Audlem boys a jolt. However, whereas in some previous games the boys had thrown caution to the wind in an effort to get a goal back, this time the response was more disciplined. Audlem continued to play the flowing football and waited for chances to arise. In the event, a stumble by a Betley defender presented the ball to an Audlem midfielder who smashed it home to level the scores. The second period was one characterised by excellent finishing as Audlem added four goals to go 5-1 up. The third and final period of play was more of the same and two good goals were added. The performance was a good one- all the more so as illness had depleted numbers and meant that Audlem had no replacement players to call upon. Next week it is Cougars- beaten by Audlem once already this season but currently the joint league leaders. Audlem are in 3rd place, with a game in hand.
