There's a fantastic musical treat coming up in Audlem this Saturday on 23rd August when Heavy Weather will be playing at the Shroppie Fly. The ever-popular band will be joined by their good friend Chris Cook from North Carolina who is in Europe for a month or so.

Those who were at the Shroppie for last year's Music Festival will always remember Chris, Jim Kirkpatrick and Heavy Weather playing one of the greatest sets heard in this area. At the end of a memorable evening's music, a visitor was heard to say to his friends: "I've heard great pub bands, I've heard crap ones. But that was the best ever!"

Chris Cook, who plays regularly with the Mavericks of Dance The Night Away fame as well as enjoying a successful solo career, met Jim Kirkpatrick when they played together at Key West's famous Hogs Breath a couple of years ago. Chris Cook has a new album out, Bag Of Emotions, which he will have with him at the Shroppie for sale.

Also on Saturday, 23rd August, starting at 2.00pm and on 'til late, is the Annual Real Ale and Beer Festival at the White Lion, Hankelow. Entry is free and all are welcome. As well as a fine range of beers and ciders, there's a marquee, bouncy castle, face painting, hair braiding, a barbeque plus live bands and a disco.

For those that haven't yet tried the White Lion's new menu, one of our regular correspondents says the pub has been transformed for the better and he warmly endorses their excellent home made specialty pies. From 1st September, you can also beat the credit crunch and eat at the White Lion for £15 for two pie meals. There is also an introductory offer of £8.50 for the Sunday carvery with a main course and pudding.
