Audlem CC Sunday XI made hay in the sunshine on Sunday as they demolished their visitors, Longton CC, on a scorching hot afternoon at The Gorse Croft..

Put in to bat by visiting captain Ryan Espley the home team opened with skipper for the day, A. Naveed and seasoned veteran Andy Capper. Naveed was soon removed by a sharp caught and bowled off Jonathon Ibbs which brought in no 3 bat Alex Howard. Alex and Andy kept the score ticking over at a decent rate and soon reached the milestone of a 50 partnership. Andy departed soon afterwards for a very useful 22 whilst Alex found some valuable assistance from the middle order batsmen before being run out on 45. The defining moment of the game arrived when prolific Atiq Hashmi (44) fresh from the previous day's 99 for the first XI came together with big hitting Chris Shenton (33) and took the game away from the visitors, easing the score past the 200 barrier to close on 207 for 8 off the allotted 40 overs.

Longton's reply never managed to gain any momentum due to some very fine line and length bowling by Simon Swift and A. Naveed. The only batsmen to reach double figures in the visitor's innings were no 8 Rahim Sadiq (20) and no 9 Alex Smith (24) but on their demise the reply soon came to a close finishing 77 all out.

Simon Swift takes 5 for 9

The successful bowlers were A. Naveed who claimed 2 wickets for 8 runs, Neil Humphries 2 wickets for 12 runs and star performer Simon Swift with 5 wickets for only 9 runs conceded off 7 overs ( the remaining wicket was a run out).

Next week Audlem entertain local rivals Betley in the quarter finals of the Stone League's Hassall Trophy with a 2;30pm start

Any support from the village or former players / members would be very welcome in what promises to be a entertaining encounter between two teams performing well in their respective divisions with the prize a semi-final appearance in the Trophy on 5th August.
