After a number of damning reports on Leighton Hospital, at last it's good news. This week's Chronicle reports that the latest National Inpatient Survey shows that Leighton scored better results than the national average. 94% of patients at Leighton said they rated overall care at Leighton as 'excellent', 'very good' or 'good' compared to the national figure of 92%. More than 80% of patients said they were always treated with dignity and respect while they were in hospital and found doctors and nurses worked well together.

Questionnaires were posted to 850 adult patients discharged from the hospital between July and August 2005. 516 Leighton patients responded to the survey, a response rate of 62%, which again was better than the national response rate of 56%. Patients were also asked about their admission, the quality of care, pain management, communication with doctors and nurses, hospital cleanliness and privacy and dignity.
