Going into the penultimate round of matches in the South Cheshire Youth League U11 division 1 football league, three teams were still in contention for the title, including ASC Saints.

The other two teams, ASC Boca Juniors and Nantwich Town Tigers both played in early kick offs on Sunday and both were beaten which was good news for Saints – but it did add a little extra pressure to the game with Wistaston, played at the Barony.

Saints would have been expected to beat Wistaston having outperformed them in the league but strange results do happen and so it was important that Saints kept their heads.

They played the game at a good tempo from the off and when two early chances were despatched the 2-0 lead seem to calm a few nerves. Saints then played some beautiful football to run out comfortable 8-0 winners.

The win leaves Saints clear at the top of the league with just one game to go and with only Nantwich now able to catch them. A point from next week's tough game with Boro Boys (Barony, ko 10am) will see Saints crowned champions. There is still work to do but at least the title outcome is now back in Saints' own hands.

Before that big game, Saints have a Cup Final to play, coincidentally against the same opponents, Boro Boys – this evening, Monday 10th May, ko 6.30 at Crewe Alex Training Ground, Reaseheath.

Come on Saints!
