Ed: We were recently sent this review of the play currently running at the Nantwich Players Theatre, with thanks to Adrian Farrow
"Nantwich Players' production of Yasmina Reza's 2006 play 'God of Carnage' provided a thoroughly enjoyable evening when a ticket became available at the last minute.
Polished performances from all four actors revealed the true nature of their characters through the two short acts. From an apparently civilised meeting of two sets of parents discussing a fight between their sons on 'Waterlode Park' (nice local touch, I thought) with obvious tension beneath a brittle politeness, the prejudices and weaknesses of the individuals soon emerges. The play descends into a scene reminiscent of the playground where alliances swop and change at breakneck speed.
It would be unfair to try to single out any of the four actors for special praise because each provided a closely-observed cameo of their character and sparked off the others with great skill.
Special credit must go to the production team who provided impressive effects which topped off this black comedy.
Don't miss it if you get the chance of a ticket before the show closes on 14th May"
