Get ready for the next Ginger & Spice Festival taking place on and around SATURDAY 28th SEPTEMBER 2024 in Market Drayton, Shropshire, during British Food Fortnight. The free of admission community festival explores the town's culinary heritage & social history via an eclectic mix of fringe events.
The 'Market' at Drayton was established by monks of nearby Combermere Abbey, so they could sell their home grown produce & wares. The market became the centre for trade in the area, and is still a thriving weekly market (Wednesday and Saturday).
Famed for its spicy biscuits, Billington's Gingerbread, has been made in the town for over 200 years. The medieval market town is also twinned with Pézenas, in the South of France, due to its culinary links with the infamous 'Clive of India' who lived nearby.
