Gareth Higgins is the Managing Director of KMF Precision Metal Fabrication, a company based near Newcastle.

KMF have been generous supporters of the Audlem Music and Arts Festival for the last few years – the KMF stage is traditionally sited at the back of the Bridge car park.

Gareth usually visits the Festival with his family, but this year he had more something more important to do. More important than the Festival I hear you ask? – now read on.

The Tower to Tower challenge

With eleven others (including Rory Delap, the legendary throw-in specialist, and Tony Pulis, manager, both ex Stoke City), Gareth took part in the sponsored Tower to Tower challenge, in support of the Donna Louise Hospice. This is a fearsome physical challenge, involving

  • Cycling from the Eiffel tower to Le Havre (270km)
  • Rowing across the Channel to Brighton (190km)
  • Walking from Brighton to the Tower of London (100km)

All this takes four days, done as a continuous process – no stops for proper rest or recuperation.

The details of the challenge can be read here.

The Donna Louise Hospice

The Donna Louise Hospice (see here for details of their work) is a popular cause here in Audlem, with a traditional garden party at Buerton House each year, and other fund-raising events.

So perhaps it would be fitting if people could see their way to making a contribution in recognition of Gareth's efforts in support of this very worthwhile cause, and KMF's ongoing support of the Festival.
