Local residents Rodney and Christine Cottrell had the honour recently of being invited to attend a Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. They were a party of ten from the RNLI – five coxswains and five fund raisers.

Rodney and Christine were impressed by the sheer size of the Garden, approximately one mile wide with a five hundred yard lawn and a tea tent 300yds long !

The Queen arrived escorted by the Yeomen of the guard and a Military Band and Rodney and Christine were presented to His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent. The Duke is also the President of the RNLI and spent some time talking to all RNLI attendees.

Rodney has been Chairman of the Crewe and Nantwich RNLI association for approximately the last seven years. During that time he has been responsible for raising between £90,000 and £100,00 for the RNLI.

Most of those funds have been directed at assisting specific lifeboat groups such as:

  • New Brighton
  • Hoylake
  • Nevin
  • Moelfre

At one time funds were raised mostly from legacies, but this pattern has changed to fund raising events such as "Car boots for Boats", Festivals as well as supermarket collections. All in all, a well deserved recognition for hard work well done!
