Future Christmas trees

As regular readers may recall, I outlined a plan whereby we would seek land on which to plant young Norwegian Spruce trees for use in the future – say 12/15 years hence.

I am pleased to say we have had a good response and we will be obtaining around 30 3/4ft pot grown trees and planning them at the properties of Lesley Davenport, Mike Harthern, Dave & Monique Cooper, David Latchford, Pete & Jane Marshall and on my own grounds.

These need to be sited so that they have free growth all around so may need some 15ft spread to ensure no die back of branches. Cost of these young trees is about £6 each and they will give us a good stock in say 2024- 2040.

We would harvest them year by year – cutting to suit the size we need. In this way we will become self sufficient for the future years.

Meanwhile we have the wonderful generosity of Graham & Angela Allinson in Hunterston for the next number of years' supply.
