ASTON AND DISTRICT W.I. REPORT OCTOBER 2026  `FROM COW TO CONE`

What a lovely, fun filled afternoon the Ladies of Aston W.I. had at our October Meeting.  After our rendition of Jerusalem, our President Jenny Bourne introduced a delightful lady called June Wilkinson who came to enlighten us on how her ice cream business at Great Budworth Farm, began

The second of 4 children, born into a farming family, after a few attempts at various jobs, including many years spent at Tatton Park as an Educational Teacher taking groups of children around the small animal farm and introducing them to many creatures such as chickens, horses, donkeys etc.

A `Lightbulb` moment struck after June had made some ice cream in her small ice cream maker she thought it could become a viable business to help bring an income to the farm.  Although her family thought it a `no go` June was determined to try and her daughter willingly joined her in this enterprise.

The business was started slowly to test how things would go, by opening a small wooden shed with a fold down counter and by placing advertising boards at either side of the farm entrances for passing trade to see and over many years the business took off, much to June`s father`s surprise, who had been slightly cynical to say the least! Selling delicious ice cream, produced with milk from the farm cows and made by the family It is now a going concern and a lovely place to visit to socialise whilst being served drinks, cakes and much much more and enjoyed by all age groups!

The Ladies of the WI all had a treat when June handed out samples of her delicious ice creams, Rhubarb, Mango, Fudge and Cherry just a few of the many flavours she has made over the years we all had a fun time tasting and trying to guess the flavours!  I am sure that our members will be making a note and putting a visit on their `bucket list`.  I certainly will.  For more information the website is: www.icecreamfarm.co.uk.

June was thanked most sincerely by Janet Wright which was followed by a huge round of applause.

Ladies were then served tea and cakes whilst taking part in a quiz about facts and fiction of ice cream!
