Whilst heading down Audlem locks on Saturday, we were amazed by the number of locals walking the towpath who said "we wondered where your boat had gone: we thought you'd left us".

Nice to know Frederic is appreciated! However, the irony is that eventually there will be no moored boats to view in Audlem, if British Waterways continue with their present policy. They are not re-letting moorings when boats leave (despite there being a healthy demand), hence the gaps in the moorings above the bridge. Audlem canal without boats in the winter will be sorry sight.

Anyway, Frederic is back, having been away for almost two months: on the canals to Northampton, along the River Nene to Peterborough, across the Fens to Denver Sluice, then up the River Great Ouse to Bedford. Total distance was 590 miles, with 290 locks to work.

The crew did return a couple of times, however, to tend the garden and take Nessa's Austin 7 to the Transport Festival.

The photos show Frederic on the River Ouse at Ely, and the effect of wind turbines on the Fenland landscape near March.
