Over recent months, Audlem Online and the Audlem Parish Newsletter have been promoting 'Shop Local'. The shops in Audlem are also displaying posters urging people to shop locally as much as possible. It saves having to travel, parking is free, it's convenient and any extra local spending is a boost for local businesses.

And soon, there will soon be four more reasons to shop in Audlem. In what is probably the largest expansion of retail space in generations in the village, four new retailers will be opening in the near future.

We are told that the old Co-op premises on the Square, now being restored to their former glory, will house the already announced dry cleaning business; a furniture/gifts store; and a florist. Meanwhile, fifty metres away, the old bookie's office is nearing the completion of its rebuilding work, and will be a unisex hairdressers.

The old Co-op building now has a fully renovated roof, a more subdued classic colour scheme and there are flats above. David and Emily Siwoku from Hankelow, who have taken over the building, have been hard at work themselves on the restoration project. Soon, the building will be back in business housing three separate shops, just as in its pre-Co-op days of many years ago. More on this as the news comes through.

Shop localThe last Parish Newsletter at the end of April featured the village's shops and the amazing range of goods now available in the village. The next Newsletter, now at the printers and ready for distribution shortly, will continue the theme by looking at Audlem's cafes, pubs and take-away food outlets. There will, of course, also be news from many of the village's clubs and societies and from Audlem Parish Council.
