As we announced on Audlem Online on Thursday, we plan to run a series of stories on our local businesses. These can be shops, pubs, cafes or one of the many other businesses run in the village and surrounding area which is likely to be of interest to local readers.

If you have a business you would like featured in this series, please send copy, and perhaps a photograph, to editor@audlem.org">editor@audlem.org

While Audlem has seen many new retail businesses opening in recent weeks, we start with the longest established shop in the village.

Williams NewsagentsWilliams' Newsagents do their best to serve Audlem and neighbouring districts' residents, and really appreciate your custom in return.

Established in 1862 by the forbearers of the present owners, they are committed to providing a wide range of goods and services that they hope will help you in your efforts to leave the car at home.

So, please do call in and see their range of Christmas gifts, calendars and cards on offer.

Local productsBesides a lovely display of charity Christmas cards, they also have the brand new 2009 Audlem Christmas cards – in packs of 10, with two brand new designs (one is pictured), at just £4.99, representing excellent value.

They also have a range of other Audlem and Cheshire related products including the Audlem tea towel designed by local artist Jo Halden – (it's the ideal present for men) – and perfect for posting too.

Dolls houses and ToysThey are now taking orders for dolls' houses and furniture, with some brand new product lines in store for this Christmas. They also stock wooden garages, trikes and scooters and other wooden toys which will really last and, best of all, do not require batteries!

They are stockists for the cutest cuddly toys on the market, Jelly cat suitable for most adults........ as well as children!

DIYFor everyday, they also stock many DIY and household items – from large to small they have it all! – from paint brushes to pastry brushes ...from loo brushes to flue brushes ...they do their best to stock an ever widening product range; glues, fuses, buckets, hooks, needles and threads.....yes, you can really get four candles or fork handles at their shop! So, you can avoid those expensive trips to town.

And if they don't have it, they will always do their best to get it.

Gathering Winter fuelIf it's winter fuel you are gathering – don't stay in the cold, remember they stock coal, logs, sticks and firelighters. You're guaranteed a warm welcome at Williams!

As newsagents, they could save you money on your daily newspapers – they have details of money saving offers for subscriptions on many of the more expensive daily papers. They also offer a delivery and shop collect service within the village that includes the full Christmas period – including Boxing Day and New Year's Day, when many other newsagents are shut.

Open at 5.45amThey are open Monday to Sunday, 7 days a week, including Wednesday afternoons, from 5.45 in the morning, every morning. So, if you fancy a change from late night shopping, try early morning shopping instead – it's a lot quieter!
