A Chatbox message from Eric Cantona, a man who definitely knows about such things, reminded us of the return of an an ancient, but much loved, tradition in Audlem – the Boxing Day football match!

Those that have participated in these so called 'Friendlies' will know that may not be the most appropriate description. Scars dating back twenty or more years on some are testimony to that.

Eric says of Audlem FC: "The Dream team face their greatest challenge so far on Boxing Day (11.00am kickoff) against an ALLSTAR Audlem Old Boys XI.

"All are welcome to watch especially Heart Surgeons and Wheelchair Mechanics! Top international match officials will supervise this top flight match. Audlem Post Office have agreed to sponsor/provide the Ref's Red Card!"

So, keep a close eye on the ref as all will be wanting a very measured performance. PaddyPower and all good bookmakers, we are sure, will be offering attractive odds on the time of the first Red card of the match!

PannyT adds: "Hope the Co-op is well stocked up with Deep Heat!"
